The botanical name for lemon balm, Melissa, comes from the Greek word meaning honeybee, and beekeepers in ancient times planted lemon balm around the hives to keep their sacred honeybees happy. Best known for its calming effects on emotional distress, this lovely organic hydrosol is also beneficial for general skin care and makes a soothing addition to body sprays.
Organic lemon balm hydrosol is mellow and slightly sweet, with a somewhat herbaceous and bitter note. Reminiscent of fresh greenery, this gentle hydrosol is a wonderful ingredient that will lend the supportive properties of lemon balm to DIY lotions and creams.
Lemon balm leaves are naturally low in oils, which is reflected in the typically high cost of the precious essential oil. While the scent of lemon balm hydrosol does not retain the strong citrus notes of the essential oil, the marvelous character of this much-adored plant is present in the botanical water. Wonderful with chamomile and lavender hydrosols for a sincerely relaxing concoction, or a couple of tablespoons added to your bath at the end of the day.
Lemon balm hydrosol is crafted in the Pacific Northwest via water-steam distillation of the fresh Melissa officinalis. Suitable for cosmetic use.
